WHAT IS SHAWARMA?

Shawarma is a popular Middle Eastern meal made from marinated meat, such as lamb, beef, and chicken. It is one of the world’s most popular street foods, especially in Egypt, and is now a staple at most Middle Eastern restaurants. Shawarma is a mouth-watering meal that is sure to please food and meat lovers.

WHERE DID SHAWARMA ORIGINATE?

Shawarma first appeared in Turkey in the 19th century in the form of doner kebab. It was later brought over to Greece and influenced the famous Greek dish, gyro which is typically prepared with lamb or beef. Shawarma gained popularity in the Western side of the world when it was brought to Mexico by Lebanese immigrants.

HOW SHAWARMA IS MADE

Traditionally Shawarma is marinated with various seasonings and spices such as cumin, turmeric, and paprika. The meat is the main part or you can say the heart of the shawarma It is made by stacking thinly sliced meat, typically lamb, beef, or chicken, seasoned and placed on a vertical spit that spins gently, roasting and self-basting for hours until tender and juicy.

HOW DOES IT GET SERVED?

Once cooked, shawarma is often sliced or shaved with a thin long knife. Only the necessary portions are sliced into thin, wide strips. The meat is then served in a stuffed pita, wrap, or sandwich, accompanied by lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and turnip. Shawarma is great since you can serve it with whichever vegetables or sauces you like! Tahini, garlic, and hummus are the most commonly used sauces in shawarma wraps.

You can even combine different meats in a single wrap or sandwich, depending on your preferences! Try a shawarma wrap with beef and chicken, for example. This is also known as "Mixed Shawarma."


Does Chicken Shawarma help in reducing weight?

Shawarma can also be eaten in a bowl with different veggies, or on a platter with fries or rice, salad like Tabbouleh or Fattoush, and cooked vegetables. It is entirely up to you how you wish to consume shawarma!

The Chicken Shawarma is a wonderful alternative if you wish to reduce weight by cutting carbs and achieving a healthy body. It's a nutritious snack if you forgo the bread and simply eat it with some salad and cucumber dressing. The meat satisfies your hunger for something delectable without adding extra fat to your body. It's high in vitamin A, vitamin C, and protein. Chicken Shawarma contains calcium, magnesium, iron, and salt.

Traditionally, shawarma meat is cooked specially for hours. Still, this kind of cooking is impossible in a normal kitchen, so in this recipe, the chicken shawarma meat is first to cut into strips and then marinated and cooked. 

Today to make the chicken shawarma roll we will first prepare chicken shawarma meat, then make three types of sauces, Julianne cut our favorite vegetables and soak them in vinegar, and then in the last step of making the chicken shawarma roll we will be assembled on pitta bread with chicken shawarma meat, favorite Julianne cut veggies and prepared sauces.

Boneless chicken cubes: 750 grams

Salt: 3/4 Teaspoon 

Red chili powder: 1/2 Tablespoon 

Coriander powder: 1/2 Tablespoon 

Garlic powder: 1/2 Teaspoon 

Black paper powder: 1 Teaspoon 

Ginger powder: 1/2 Teaspoon 

Turmeric powder: 1/4 Teaspoon 

White vinegar: 2 Tablespoon

Sesame seed: 1 Tablespoon

Soy sauce: 1 Tablespoon

Onion: 1 Small size

Water: 2 to 3 Tablespoons 

Red food color: 1/8 Teaspoon

Ingredients for vegetables

Julianne cut carrots: 1-/1/2 cup (150 gram)

Julianne cut cucumber: 1-1/2 cup (150 grams)

Julianne cut capsicum: 1 Medium sized 

White vinegar: 1/2 cup

Water: 1/4 cup

Julianne cut cabbage: 1-1/2 cup

Direction to cook Chicken Shawarma meat

Take a bowl and add chicken strips to it then add salt to it.

Now mix all of them very well and leave it for a minimum of 1 hour. You can rest the chicken for marination to get the best taste.

Now cook the marinated chicken on medium-high flame until tender.

Set aside. From this quantity of cooked chicken, you can make 7 to 8 shawarmas.

Direction to make white garlic sauce

In a blender jar add mayonnaise, white vinegar, lemon juice, salt, oregano, black paper powder, sesame seeds, garlic cloves, and olive oil. Blend all these ingredients very well to get the white sauce.

Take out it in a bowl and set it aside.

Directions to make spicy red sauce

In a blender jar add chili flakes, soy sauce, olive oil, white vinegar, salt, garlic cloves, onion, water, and a pinch of Red fort color. Blend all these ingredients very well to get the spicy red hot sauce.

Take out in a bowl.

Now take another bowl and add 2 Tablespoons of mayonnaise, 2 Tablespoons of spicy red hot sauce, and 1 Tablespoon of chili sauce. Give it a good mix

The red sauce is ready. Set aside.

Directions to make the yellow sauce.

Take a bowl and add mayonnaise, garlic powder, white vinegar, yellow mustard paste, and a pinch of yellow food color. Mix all these ingredients very well.

Yellow sauce is ready. set aside it.

Preparation for veggies.

On a platter add Julianne's cut carrots, Julianne's cat cucumber Julianne's cut capsicum. You can use other vegetables you like.

Now pour white vinegar and water on it and leave it for a minimum of 2 hours.

Place a tava or pan on the stove and cook Pita bread from both sides for a minute on high-medium flame.

Now spread white garlic sauce on Pita bread as needed.

Now put some cabbage in the center of the Pita bread.

Pour some yellow sauce on the chicken.

Now put some Julianne cut carrots, capsicum, and cucumber (soaked in vinegar) on it.

Now fold the pita bread and wrap the bread in parchment paper.
